How To Add Your Website Sitemap To Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is the newest name of Google Webmaster Tools. As you all know that Google is an enormous search engine and to run your website you have to add a sitemap of your website to Google Search Console.

There are many ways to create a sitemap for your website. You can generate it by generators or may use a plugin.

In most of the cases, plugins are preferred as the best. It’s because you don’t need to update your sitemap manually after every post. But when you add it after generating from sitemap generators then you have to submit it after every single post.

What Is A Website Sitemap?

Before going further, you must know about sitemap, what does it do and how? Many newbies have misconceptions that a sitemap is used to index the blog posts.

But the truth is that a sitemap is used to tell the search engine about all the posts, pages of your website.

When you add a sitemap to Google Search Console then it is the signal to the GSC to crawl your website. A sitemap indicates all the different kind of pages, posts present at your website.

If you add a sitemap and it doesn’t work fine then GSC will show crawl errors.

There are many bloggers who don’t want to show their sitemap to others. For which they prevent their sitemap from indexing.

How To Add A Sitemap?

By using a plugin in WordPress, you can create a sitemap for your website. Now it’s time to add a sitemap to Google Search Console. There are some simple steps to follow. I am sure you will not face any difficulty regarding any of them.

Here We Go:

Step 1:- Login to your Google Search Console account in which you have added your website. After that at the home page of your account, you will see the name of your website. You just have to click on your website.

Step 2:- After opening your website from your account, you can see the status of crawl errors and search analytics. In the left-hand-side, a menu will be there. You will see many options. From all the options just select “crawl” under which an option showing “sitemap” will be displayed to you. Just go for it. Click to that option.

Step 3:- If you already have added s sitemap then you will see the number of indexed pages and submitted pages. But if you want to add a sitemap then go for “Add/Test Sitemap”. The URL of your website will be shown to you. You just need to add the URL of the sitemap of your website.

As I have shown in the screenshot, you have to add “/sitemap.xml/” after the URL of your website.

If you’re using Yoast SEO plugin then add /sitemap_index.xml/ After filling it, you will find three options to use. For testing, you can click to “test sitemap”, and if you want to add a sitemap then select “submit sitemap”.

Step 4:- A message will be shown to you, you can select to refresh the page or to close it. Click on “refresh the page” and in the bottom of the page, you will see that your sitemap has added to Google Search Console. Depending upon the SEO of your website the pages and posts of your website will get indexed.
